Lawrence was appointed a Director of Good Energy Group on 1st December 2004. Previously he was Chief Executive of Zurich Financial Services, UK and International Life.

Prior to this appointment he was Executive Chairman of UNUM Ltd, the European arm of UNUM Provident Inc, the world's largest disability insurer. In 1991 Lawrence was the founding Chief Executive of NatWest Life and Chairman of NatWest Unit Trusts. In 1995 he also assumed responsibility for NatWest's Retail Investments and became Chairman of NatWest Stockbrokers. Lawrence is also the Chairman of the Pension Protection Fund and the Senior Independent Director at the Children's Mutual.
