GOOD ENERGY RECEIVES PLANNING APPROVAL FOR DELABOLE WIND FARM REPOWER
Good Energy Group PLC today announces that its wholly owned subsidiary, Good Energy Generation Ltd, has received approval for the repowering of its wind farm at Delabole in North Cornwall at a meeting of the North Cornwall Planning and Development Committee on Tuesday 2nd December. The planning approval will allow for a proposed increase in the wind farm's output by two and half times. By decommissioning the existing ten turbines and installing four modern, more powerful turbines, the Repowering project will harness the wind resource more effectively, providing enough energy to supply over 7,500 homes. The Repowering of Delabole is Good Energy's first wind farm development project. This successful step accomplished by Good Energy's dedicated generation development team supports the company's mission to build a renewable energy portfolio to supply their growing customer base. On receiving news of the project's planning approval, Juliet Davenport, Chief Executive of Good Energy Group said: "I am delighted that Delabole wind farm has received approval to be Repowered. Delabole was the UK's first commercial wind farm and today we have reached a significant milestone in the next stage of its development. We are entering the second generation of wind energy in the UK, proving it is an economically and environmentally sustainable energy source." "By increasing the capacity of Delabole wind farm we can contribute to Cornwall's renewable energy targets, increase price stability for Good Energy's electricity supply business and take an essential step in helping the UK reduce its carbon footprint. It is thanks to the hard work of Good Energy's committed team and the unwavering support of Good Energy's customers and local residents that the planning committee voted to approve our application." The repowering of Delabole Wind Farm was generally welcomed by the local community in North Cornwall and Good Energy expects the Repowered Delabole wind farm to be operational in 2010. - ends - For further information contact: David Hopkins, Carbon International PR Mb: +44 (0) 7957 678 370 Tel: +44 (0) 20 7483 3343 Or Jessica Knowles, Good Energy Tel: 01249 766770 Notes to Editor
